Local SSE employees have selected Food Train as the Charity of their choice, to support under the Company's Employee Supported Volunteering scheme this year. 4 High Voltage linesmen turned up for shopping duty on Thursday 6th December at Morrisons Supermarket to collect groceries for 23 older people living in the Dunblane area. The HV linesmen are based in Dunblane and wanted to do something to help the older people in the community where they work. The team of 4, Stevie, Andy, Ian and John have agreed to shop again for Food Train's Dunblane customers leading up to Christmas. Thank You SSE!
A Parliamentary Reception, hosted by Claudia Beamish, MSP for Scotland South, was held on 21st November 2012 in Holyrood to recognise the positive outcomes for older people supported by Food Train in Scotland. It was a very rewarding afternoon and clearly demonstrated a need for the Food Train service to be made available in other local authority areas. Local customer Mrs Sheona Low from Bridge of Allan attended along with Stirling volunteer Mrs Eleanor Phillips. Mrs Low took the opportunity to tell attending MSPs and other guests of her experience as a customer of Food Train. She spoke highly of the service, the friendliness and helpfulness of Stirling volunteers and of the flexibility of local branch staff.
Food Train has been successfully shopping and delivering groceries for the older people of Stirling since 14th November 2011! With over 100 customers and a team of nearly 50 volunteers, the service runs 4 days a week with 2 vans out each day and supports customers in Stirling, Dunblane, Bridge of Allan, plus many rural villages and towns including Callander, Brig O Turk, Killin and Aberfoyle, to name but a few. Local volunteers met together to reflect on the first full year of service and shared some birthday cake to celebrate its success! Feedback from customers has been very positive and a recent survey demonstrated a very favourable response in all questions asked. Volunteers are now looking forward to the year ahead and welcoming many more older people to get on board!
