The Food Train is pleased to launch a new service called Food Train Friends.

The aim of Food Train Friends is provide an informal social support to help improve the quality of life for our customers by providing them with a service to reduce social isolation, boost self-esteem and to improve people’s health and wellbeing.

Food Train Friends is looking for volunteers to become befrienders to provide one-to-one, telephone and group befriending. If you enjoy talking to others, are able to listen and have a couple of hours each week/fortnight that you could spend with an older person, we would love to hear from you. Initially this service will be run in Annandale and Eskdale.

Our volunteers will be fully supported by Food Train staff, training can be provided and out-of-pocket expenses paid. We are looking for volunteers who can provide a consistent and reliable support to help customers experience social interaction on a regular basis. All Food Train volunteers undergo an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check.
