We’ve all heard the saying “old age doesn’t come itself”, but when we are young we are often too busy living life to the full to think about what our old age will be like and who will be there when we need a little bit of help.
"I need Food Train as I walk with a stick
now, shopping is so awkward and I can’t
manage to carry the heavy things any
more, I’m always glad to see the volunteers
with my shopping and I enjoy the natter
with them, they are all so kind.”
Mrs P Martin, Lockerbie,
Food Train customer since 2004
Since 1995 Food Train has been making daily life easier for older people right across Dumfries and Galloway. Started by a group of older volunteers, Food Train makes hundreds of grocery deliveries every week, ensuring those most in need have easy access to fresh groceries. Teams of dedicated local volunteers across the region also go that extra mile by helping out with household jobs and providing much needed friendly social contact.
What your Legacy can achieve
Food Train is funded by a mix of donations, fundraising, Local Government Grants and small charges for services. One way you can help us is by leaving a legacy in your will. Legacies are an important part of our income, and every gift small or large helps us provide the services our members need.
Your legacy could help us keep our delivery fleet on the road, provide social outings for members and support the vital work done by our local volunteers and staff. Whatever you can give, we will make the most of it.
